Oregon Mentoring Program Standards
This link takes you to the Oregon Administrative Rules page, see OARs 581-018-0130 through 581-018-0151. Mentoring Program Standards describe the structures and functions, processes, and effective practices necessary for a quality program. Effective mentoring is foundational to a quality program. An essential element of a mentoring program is a professional mentor who understands and utilizes the skills, strategies and tools necessary for the continuous development of teachers and administrators.

Self Appraisal Tools

Mentor Program Standards Self-Appraisal Tool The Self-Appraisal Tool can be used to self-evaluate mentoring projects based on the Oregon Mentoring Program Standards. The tool identifies strengths and weaknesses in current or proposed mentoring projects. Highlighted strengths and how gaps will be addressed can be included in the Mentoring grant application.

Oregon Mentoring Program Foundational Standards Protocol Process

The Oregon Mentoring Program Foundational Standards Protocol is used when a district leadership team is developing or reflecting on their current mentoring project both as a pre-assessment for mentoring project staff, and talking-points during a review of the completed Program Foundational Standards Protocol with district leadership team.

Model Analysis Tools

• The Oregon Mentor Models Analysis Tool

  This tool is designed to highlight the benefits and challenges of each of the models. The model(s) that best fits the needs, capacity, resources, goals and vision of the project will be identified.

• Southern Oregon Mentor Consotium Blended Model Draft

  Beginning educators work with a full-release mentor AND receive support from inbuilding/district colleague mentor.

Mentor Goal Setting Tools

• Personal Professional Grow Goals - submitted by the Mid-Willamette Valley Consortium
• Mentor Rubric - submitted by the Mid-Willamette Valley Consortium
• Mentor Goal Setting Packet - submitted by the Southern Oregon Mentor Consortium

Students in Oregon deserve absolutely the best principals and teachers we can give them. The Oregon Mentoring Program can help make that happen. Fifty percent of beginning teachers leave the profession in their first five years. The Oregon Mentoring Program can change that. Teachers who have been mentored have greater gains in student achievement than teachers who have not been mentored. For the sake of the students, Mentoring Works!

Fast Facts are based on data collected, summarized, and analyzed from various data sources including Oregon Department of Education data collections and annual surveys sent to the six groups involved with the school district mentoring programs. Research

• Beginning July 1, 2017 until the program sunset, the Center for Education Innovation, Evaluation, and Research at Willamette ESD provided evaluation of the ODE Mentoring Program. Please see their website for briefs, reports and evaluation information that may still be posted.
• Between 2011 - June 30, 2017 The Research Institute - Center on Educator Preparation & Effectiveness provided evaluation of the ODE Mentoring Program to determine its effectiveness in improving teaching practices to improve student learning. This page contains evaluation information, reports and Mentoring Program Briefs from that time period.
• NTC Review of State Policies on Teacher Induction These white papers provide the first comprehensive look at induction policies in each of the 50 states. For each state, NTC summarizes existing policies related to 10 key criteria most critical to the provision of universal, high-quality induction and mentoring support for beginning educators. The state summaries capture all relevant policies, statutes, regulations, induction program standards, and other guidance on new teacher induction and mentoring.
