AED, CPR and First Aid training in schools
OAR 581-022-2220 requires school districts to ensure certain school staff are trained to provide AED, CPR, and first aid services. Each school must have, at a minimum, at least one staff member with a current first aid/CPR/AED card for every 60 students enrolled as set by
ORS 339.345, and
342.664.
Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that analyzes cardiac rhythm and prompts a user to deliver a shock when necessary. Its purpose is to jolt abnormal heart rhythm, such as ventricular fibrillation, back to normal sinus rhythm.
Since 2015, ORS 339.345 has required each school campus to have at least one automated external defibrillator (AED) on premises.
