Early Connections to Kindergarten

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE), Department of Early Learning and Care (DELC), and Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) are collaborating with partners across the state to share the value of early registration for kindergarten families.

When families register for school in the spring, they have more opportunities to:

  • share information about their child’s strengths, interests, and needs;
  • participate in summer transitioning into kindergarten programs;
  • sign-up for school meals, bus transportation, and before and after-school programs; and
  • meet other families during school events and start the year off right!

ODE has created a toolkit below with print-ready materials translated into eight languages. These materials supplement conversations with families about early registration during the pre-kindergarten year.

Every Oregonian
has a role!

You can help children and families have a strong start to kindergarten by sharing this simple message: If your student will be five years old on or before September 1st, it’s time to register for kindergarten. The first step is to visit the school’s website or call the school to learn more about how to register.
