The Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) went into effect in 2001, placing restrictions on funding for several federal programs, including E-Rate. These restrictions require that to obtain funding for computers, internet access, and related services, - applicants must certify they have internet safety policies and technology protection measures in place. COPPA- Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule
This part implements the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, (15 U.S.C. 6501, et seq.,) which prohibits unfair or deceptive acts or practices in connection with the collection, use, and/or disclosure of personal information from and about children on the Internet.
