Unprocessed Fruits and Vegetables Pilot

USDA Foods Unprocessed Fruits and Vegetables option is a pilot project. Section 4202 of the Agricultural Act of 2014 (P.L. 113-79), otherwise known as the Farm Bill, amended Section 6 of the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act (42 U.S.C. 1755(f)) to provide for a pilot project for the procurement of unprocessed fruits and vegetables in not more than eight States. USDA's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is working closely with USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) to implement this pilot project. Oregon was chosen as one of the eight pilot states.

Program Requirements:

  • Contract with a USDA-approved vendor to procure unprocessed fruits and vegetables
  • After delivering the unprocessed product, the vendor completes the Vendor/SDA Reporting Template (xls) and should send it to the school to check and sign that the information is correct. Once signed, retain a copy of it before returning it to the vendor.
