What are Alternative Schools and Programs?

Oregon Law defines Alternative Education as a school or separate class group designed to best serve students' educational needs and interests and assist students in achieving the academic standards of the school district and the state (ORS 336.615).

A variety of private and public alternative schools and programs are evolving to fulfill Oregon's commitment to help students achieve high academic and career-related standards and to pursue their individual goals and interests.

• Oregon School Directory - The Oregon School Directory is an online phone book listing phone numbers, addresses, and key staff people in all public schools and districts in the state.
  
• Charter Schools - A charter school in Oregon is a public school operated by a group of parents, teachers and/or community members as a semi-autonomous school of choice within a school district.
  
• Homeschooling - Teaching children in the home is an option available to all Oregonians.
• GED - A bridge to post-secondary education and employment for those who did not graduate high school.
