Alternative Education

Alternative Schools and Programs

Oregon Law defines Alternative Education as a school or separate class group designed to best serve students' educational needs and interests and assist students in achieving the academic standards of the school district and the state (ORS 336.615).

In the past, alternative education may have most often been described as off-site programs for the most at-risk students. Now, a variety of private and public alternative schools and programs are evolving to fulfill Oregon's commitment to help students achieve high academic and career-related standards and to pursue their individual goals and interests.
