A Note of Caution

NOTE: Use caution when comparing test results across years. The group reports display the percent of students meeting or exceeding the achievement standards that were in place during the academic year the results are reported. The statewide assessment system, which measures whether students have mastered the academic content, is adjusted periodically to remain aligned with the required content. When achievement standards (cut scores) are revised, it is not appropriate to compare the percent of students meeting from one year to the next.

Changes in Achievement Standards

• 2006-07

  • Achievement standards for reading/literature, mathematics, and science were revised to align with the academic content standards in place at the time

• 2010-11

  • Achievement standards for mathematics at grades 3-8 were revised to align with the Common Core State Standards for mathematics

• 2011-12

  • Achievement standards for reading/literature and science were revised to align with the Common Core State Standards for reading and the Science Core and Content Standards approved by the Oregon State Board of Education in 2009

• 2014-15

  • Achievement standards for mathematics and English language arts are aligned with the Smarter Balanced scale. ODE intends to hold the high school achievement level steady during the transition period for purposes of the assessment of Essential Skills (graduation requirements).
