Mental Health Toolkit

The Mental Health Toolkit is designed for district leaders, school administrators, and school-based mental health professionals (i.e. school counselors, school psychologists, school social workers, and school nurses) interested in promoting the health and well-being of school communities while creating a culture of safety, care and belonging.

ODE recognizes and honors the valuable work of Oregon's school districts in serving students, staff and families. The recommendations and resources provided herein offer important considerations for the implementation, continuity, and sustainability of a strengths-based, multi-tiered system of support. It includes tools for caring for students, and the adults (i.e., teachers, parents, school staff and leaders) that guide and nurture them.

The Mental Health Toolkit addresses the 6 content areas below, and includes curated resources regarding the following topics:

  • Leading from Strength to Promote Mental Health
  • Integrated Model of Mental Health
  • Addressing Traumatic Stress
  • Elevating Student Voice
  • Centering Racial Equity and Antiracism
  • Promoting Inclusive School Environments
  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
