Overview
Documents and links on this page are intended to support districts as educators implement the updated Official Writing Scoring Guide aligned to the Common Core Writing Standards.
During the 2016-2017 school year, ODE provided districts a transitional year for implementation of the updated Official Writing Scoring Guide, which was referred to as the “Revised Writing Scoring Guide”. Starting with the 2017-2018 school year, the “Revised Writing Scoring Guide” becomes the Official version, which is currently posted. Copies of the updated Official Writing Scoring Guide for both Narrative and Informative/Explanatory writing guides be found on the Scoring Guides page.
ODE has developed student language versions of the Revised Scoring Guides. Which are now available for download and classroom use on the Scoring Guide Page.

Scored Student Work with Commentary
These exemplar papers show student work at various achievement levels. From relatively low papers to those that are high and exceed the standard. Included on the grid are two commentaries for each exemplar paper, one based on the Official Writing Scoring Guide, and one based on the Legacy Scoring Guide. Note that while the commentary differs slightly depending on which version of the scoring guide is used, the scores remain the same. This reflects that the expectations for meeting the standard remain the same even though some of the scoring guide language has changed to align more closely to Common Core Writing Standards.
