Early Literacy Instructional Materials Dashboard

This website, created in accordance with ORS.327.835 (3)(b), provides an inventory of literacy assessments, tools, curricula, and digital resources used in Pre-K to 5th-grade classrooms throughout Oregon. It includes instructional materials used by recipients of the Early Literacy Success School District Grant. 

The inventory dashboard uses information submitted by districts and charter schools through grant applications and reporting. ODE has made some changes to entries for clarity. The dashboard will be updated annually based on information submitted by districts and charter schools. 

The dashboard offers an unprecedented opportunity for:

  • Families and community members to see the instructional materials being used in their student’s school district for early literacy across grades and explore what is used in other districts. 
  • School districts, ESDs, and charter schools to understand what others are using across the state, search all the districts using a particular instructional material, and create opportunities for collaboration.

Oregon requires all public school districts to choose high-quality, research-based materials for Language Arts. To know if a school district’s main curriculum is aligned to the science of reading, check the "Adoption" column in the dashboard. It shows whether districts followed a “State Board of Education” or “Independent Adoption” process to choose the curriculum:

  1. State Board of Education Materials: These materials are approved by the state because they meet research-aligned criteria for Language Arts. This means the curriculum is research-aligned.
  2. Independent Adoption: If the materials are not on the state’s approved list, the district must review the curriculum to ensure it meets the criteria. This means that the materials may or may not be research-aligned.
In both cases, the local school board must approve the materials before teachers can use them in the classroom.

You can also check if the curriculum is research-aligned by looking it up on EdReports, an independent organization that reviews language arts, math, and science materials.

Note: This requirement only applies to core curriculum. Districts also may use supplemental materials to teach literacy, such as intervention materials and assessments, which are also listed on the dashboard but not required to be formally approved.

For Questions, Updates, or Corrections 

Districts and charter schools can make updates or corrections to their inventory at any time by emailing their District Grant Manager. (Note that districts and charter schools are not required to provide updates more frequently than the grant application and annual reporting windows, but are able to do so.)
