2017 Residential Energy Tax Credit Rates

The RETC program ended on December 31, 2017. We are no longer accepting applications.

Residential Energy Tax Credit rates were based on the statutory credit rates in ORS 316.116, and were calculated based on the amount of energy saved. Tax credit eligibility requirements for each device are described in the RETC Administrative Rules , ORS 469B.100-118 and ORS 316.116

Rates effective January 1, 2017 for devices purchased by December 31, 2017.

Wood & Pellet Stoves

Models in the EPA list that do not have an "Actual Measured Efficiency."
Maximum emissions allowed per stove type (g/hr):

Non-catalytic - 3.5
Catalytic - 2.5
Pellet - 2.5

$288
Wood & Pellet Stoves

Models that have an "Actual Measured Efficiency" in the Environmental Protection Agency List of Certified Wood Stoves
Actual Measured Efficiency, as found on the EPA list

Maximum emissions allowed per stove type (g/hr):
  • Non-catalytic - 3.5
  • Catalytic - 2.5
  • Pellet - 2.5
For stoves on the list meeting the emissions requirements, the tax credit calculation is:

12,000 multiplied by
(Device Efficiency - 0.66)
multiplied by $0.60

The EPA-listed device efficiency is a percentage, so turn your number into a decimal for the calculation.
Example:
71 efficiency rating, use 0.71 in the calculation above.
Solar Electric (Photovoltaic) $1.30 per watt of installed capacity of direct current, up to $6,000 ($1,500 per year over four years).
Solar Space Heating
(Passive or Active)
$0.60 per first-year energy yield in kWh, up to $1,500.
Solar Domestic Water Heating $2.00 per first-year energy yield in kWh, up to $6,000
Solar Pool Heating $0.20 per first-year energy yield in kWh, up to $2,500.
Solar Spa or Hot Tub Heating $0.15 per first-year energy yield in kWh, up to $1,500.
Wind System $2.00 per first-year energy yield in kWh, up to $6,000 ($1,500 per year over four years).
Alternative Fuel Device
(Charging Station or Fuel System)
50% of the eligible cost, not to exceed $750.
Fuel Cell $3.00 per watt of the installed capacity, up to $6,000 ($1,500 per year over four years).
