Making Changes to Tank Status

Change of ownership or temporary closure

If you have recently become an owner/permittee of an underground storage tank, or if you are in the process of selling a UST, please refer to the links below for the appropriate steps to take to correctly change responsibility to the new and current owner of the UST system. It is important to update this information as quickly as possible, so our records correctly reflect the personnel that are legally responsible for the UST system.

Install, return-to-service or retrofit a tank

Prior to the installation, return-to-service, or retrofit of an underground storage tank, please refer to the links below to begin the process. Please note that a notice to install an underground storage tank must be submitted 30 days prior to the start of the installation work.

Decommission, modify, or repair a tank

Prior to beginning the decommission, modification, or major repair of a UST system (including discovered/unregistered tanks), please refer to the links below.

Note: a notification of work must be submitted 30 days prior to the start of decommissioning or change in service for any UST.

Step 1: The UST Decommissioning/Change-in-Service 30-day Notice Form must be submitted to the UST Program Coordinator at ust.dutyofficer@deq.oregon.gov a minimum of 30 days before starting any decommissioning work.

Step 2: Email the completed notification to ust.dutyofficer@deq.oregon.gov before starting decommissioning work. You must call the UST Duty officer at your local DEQ regional office 3 days before starting any decommissioning work.

Step 3: The UST Decommissioning Checklist and Site Assessment Report must be submitted to the UST Program Coordinator within 30 days after completion of the decommissioning or change-in-service.
