A few helpful DEI reminders as we enter the holiday season

We are again at the time of the year when we celebrate and enjoy time with colleagues, family, and friends. This holiday season provides us a great opportunity to learn more about the cultures and traditions that surround us.

As we enjoy the holidays, we need to remember that the season often brings unwelcome guests – stress and depression. And it’s no surprise. The holidays come with an array of demands like shopping, cooking meals, baking, more shopping, cleaning, and entertaining – to name just a few. So, let’s keep in our minds those we have lost through the years and those colleagues we know who have lost a loved one.

Here are some helpful seasonal reminders:

  • Seek the input of your colleagues when planning section holiday celebrations.
  • Be respectful of those who celebrate different holidays than you or who do not celebrate any holiday.
  • Celebration attendance is voluntary.
  • Consider learning about the unique traditions and significance of different holiday practices from your colleagues, family, or friends.
  • Remember to respect the personal, religious, or nonreligious beliefs and cultural practices of our colleagues and community partners.
