Medicaid Data

As the agency responsible for Oregon’s Medicaid program, OHA receives and generates large amounts of data about Medicaid enrollees, and health care services that were paid by Medicaid. These data are collected and stored in a database called the Medicaid Management Information System, or MMIS. Data collected in MMIS (which are sometimes collectively called “Medicaid administrative data”) are used by researchers and policymakers to monitor, report on, and improve Oregon’s Medicaid delivery system.

The Office of Health Analytics accesses and analyzes MMIS data through two data warehouses which hold MMIS data that have been transformed for easier analysis: The Decision Support and Surveillance Utilization Review System (DSSURS); and Health Analytics Library (HAL). Generally speaking, both DSSURS and HAL are simply different ways to store and access the data that originate in MMIS.

Read the MMIS profile to learn more about this data source. The data profile includes helpful information such as:

  • How the are data collected
  • Things to remember when interpreting MMIS data
