Submit a Petition for Rate Regulation
The size and rates charged by a water utility affects how they are regulated by the PUC. The PUC regulates all water utilities that serve over 500 customers.
Water utilities serving less than 500 customers, may petition the PUC for rate regulation. Regulatory oversight helps provide greater transparency to customers and assurances that the rates are adequate to provide sufficient revenues to cover reasonable operating costs and an opportunity to earn a return on investment
How to Petition for Rate Regulation
- File a letter of application stating that you are requesting rate regulation and the reasons for this request by email.
- The same day the application is submitted to the PUC, provide a separate written notice to your customers and the PUC’s Consumer Services team. The notice must also be posted on your company website and in your office, and must include:
- The reason you are seeking rate regulation
- Offer customers the ability to call the PUC’s Consumer Services team with questions
