The purpose of professional development requirements is to demonstrate a continuing level of competency for professional engineers, land surveyors, photogrammetrists, and certified water rights examiners.
30 professional development hours (PDH) must be obtained by every registrant during each biennial period in order to complete their renewal.
New Licensees
Registrants who are licensed for part of a registration period of six months or greater will obtain a prorated amount of required PDHs. Please email osbeels.renewals@osbeels.oregon.gov if you need assistance determining your needed hours.
Examples of PDH sources include, but are not limited to the following:
- Tutorials
- Web-based courses
- Seminars
- Workshops
- Professional conventions
- Teaching a one-time course
- College courses
- Active participation in a professional society (max. eight (8) PDHs per biennial period)
- Self-study (max. six (6) PDHs per biennial period)
OSBEELS does not have an official list of PDH
providers, courses, or conferences but you can check our Continuing
Education Opportunities page for upcoming local and virtual events and
training opportunities.
For additional PDH source examples and elaboration, see OAR 820-010-0635(5).
For non-qualifying activities, see OAR 820-010-0635(3).
For conversion of other tracking units to PDH units, see OAR 820-010-0635(4).
Note: Credit determination for activities completed is the responsibility of the registrant and is subject to review by the Board. Activities must be pertinent to your license or furthering your professional education.
Supporting documentation of PDHs received must be retained for five (5) years and submitted to the Board when requested to participate in an audit. Supporting documentation may include, but it is not limited to:
- Completion certificates
- Paid receipts
- Attendance logs
- Other documents supporting evidence of attendance
Note: A maximum of 15 PDH units may be carried forward into the next registration period.
Example: You've earned 50 PDH units; you may use 30 now and carry 15 forward, and the remaining 5 would be not usable.
Dual Licensees: The number of PDH units required remain a total of 30 per registration period for persons who hold registration as any combination of engineer, land surveyor, photogrammetrist, or certified water rights examiner.
PDH Tracking Tools
NCEES offers a “CPC Tracking" service for free through your MyNCEES portal. You can find details here on how to use their services. Oregon cannot accept your transcript directly from NCEES. Your NCEES CPC transcript can be downloaded into a PDF format from your MyNCEES portal and uploaded into your MyOSBEELS renewal.
You can also download the OSBEELS Continuing Professional Development Organizational Form from our website to use as a tracking tool.
