All Oregon State approved HCI letters Qualified
and Certified are valid for 4 years from the date of
issue (OAR 950-050-0100 and 950-050-0110). If the qualification or certification has not been renewed within 1 year (12 months) of the expiration date, the HCI shall re-apply as a new applicant (OAR 950-050-0120).
Renewing HCIs may renew as early as, but no more than, 60-days before the expiration date of the current credential.

Renewing your Qualified or Certified Letter
All Oregon State approved HCI letters (Qualified and Certified are valid for 4 years from the date of issue (OAR 950-050-0100 and 950-050-0110). According to the new Rule Housebill 2359, Health Care Interpreters are no longer required to be certified; it is optional.
All Qualified and Certified HCI's must complete 24 hours of OHA approved continuing education (CEU) (OAR 950-050-0090):
- Six hours of health care interpreter ethics
- Six hours of interpretation skills
- Twelve hours that cover any topics accepted for continuing education by interpreter certification testing centers

Qualified Sign Language Interpreters: In addition to the CEUs above, please
complete an OHA approved 60 hour HCI training course and send proof of
certificate of completion. See the training page for approved training
organizations.
