Climate and Health Impact Assessment

Connecting the dots between climate change planning and health impact assessment

Our Climate and Health Program is closely linked with Oregon’s Health Impact Assessment (HIA) program.

One of our recent projects evaluated the Metro Regional Government’s Climate Smart Communities Scenarios and described the health impacts of proposed carbon-reduction strategies. The assessment was presented to the Metro Council and helped to ensure that health considerations were part of the decision-making.

In partnership with Upstream Public Health, the HIA team also co-developed a Climate Change Policy HIA Toolkit to assist public health professionals in conducting similar HIAs on local climate change policies.
