Investigative Guidelines for HIV
Newly diagnosed cases of HIV are reportable in Oregon by county via laboratory data. Forms and information on reporting criteria are available below:
These guidelines represent the first major revision since 2012. Draft guidelines were revised in 2023 based on review and suggestions by interested parties representing local health authorities. A copy of this document is available from the HIV Surveillance Program upon request (971-673-0153). Notable additions and changes to the 2023 guidelines include:
- Added achievement of viral suppression equating non-transmissible language.
- More clearly outlined the definitions of Suspect, Under Investigation, and Confirmed case status.
- Removed section outlining classification system for staging HIV infection.
- Updated HIV testing options and acceptable testing algorithm(s) to confirm HIV.
- Case Investigation procedures and instructions for entering interview information into Orpheus have been updated.
- Resources for referral and linkage to care for newly diagnosed cases have been updated.
- Added HIV Cluster follow up section.
- Revised language to person-first language.
