The basis of design can be used to achieve the following key results:
- Identify the primary intent and focus areas of highway improvement projects.
- Provide pertinent background and details to aid project development staff and consultant resources design a viable solution.
- Document any unique considerations or factors that may otherwise be overlooked until later in the project lifecycle.
This deliverable will be required on all Statewide Transportation Improvement Program projects that are expected to use full service consultant contracts for design. As you develop new contracts for outsourced design services, remember to incorporate this requirement in the Task 12 deliverables section of the Work Order Contract.
