Summer Reading: Why it Matters 

 
Babies, children, and teens who participate in summer library programs benefit from opportunities supporting literacy development. The State Library is proud to partner with and support libraries in enhancing lifelong learning and providing meaningful, enjoyable summer learning experiences for all Oregonians. Every summer, Oregon libraries work to prevent summer learning loss and maintain grade levels through the Collaborative Summer Library Program(CSLP), funded by federal funds through the Library Services and Technology Act.

2019 Summer Reading Survey


Every September, the State Library collects Summer Reading data to share how Oregon libraries are serving their communities in the summer.  The 2019 Summer Reading Survey is open now until October 1st, 2019. You can view or download a PDF of the survey if it is helpful. Results will be compiled and posted here in December 2019.

2019 Summer Reading: A Universe of Stories


All Oregon public, tribal, and volunteer libraries are members of the Collaborative Summer Library Program. If you have any questions about accessing your account, please contact your Youth Services Consultant. 2019 Manuals were mailed to all Oregon libraries in Fall 2018. 2020 Manuals will be available at the Summer Reading Summit in Salem on September 28, 2019. 

For libraries that would like Summer Reading Certificates for those who complete their Summer Reading programs, they are available below:

2019 Summer Reading Summit 


We are looking forward to seeing you at the 2019 Summer Reading Summit on September 28th, 2019, at the Salem Public Library! This is your chance to join fellow youth services librarians from across Oregon to celebrate all things summer. The Summit is an opportunity to learn, network, and support each other as we work to ensure all Oregon kids have a positive and meaningful summer library experience.
