Examination information
The Health Licensing Office and the Board of Denture Technology have approved the following examinations required to obtain licensure as a denturist in the State of Oregon:
Written licensing examination
The Universal Testing Services written exam consists of 240 multiple-choice test questions. The exam is separated into 23 competency areas based on knowledge, skills and abilities required of denturists for safe and effective practice. Candidates are given hour hours to complete the exam.
It is administered on computerized touch screens at testing locations throughout Oregon. Candidates must obtain authorization from HLO to register with the UTS to sit for the exam.
Competency areas and recommended reference materials are listed in the UTS study guide.
Official documentation of examination results must be sent directly by the UTS to the HLO. Candidates will be notified by the HLO of a pass/fail based on their overall examination performance.
Practical licensing examination
The UTS practical exam is used to determine and verify the candidate possesses the minimum level of practical and cognitive skills essential for the competent and safe practice of denturism, including patient treatment, alginate impressions, final impressions, bite registration and development and try-in of trial (wax) dentures. A total of 10 hours is allotted for the examination.
The exam is administered not less than annually. Candidates must obtain authorization from the HLO to proceed with registration through the UTS to sit for the examination.
