About the board
The Board of Athletic Trainers oversees the practice of athletic trainers in the State of Oregon. Athletic trainers prevent, recognize and evaluate athletic injuries and provide immediate care, rehabilitation and reconditioning services to athletes. They work in cooperation with physicians and other allied health personnel and serve as members of the athletic health care team at secondary schools, colleges and universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports programs and other athletic health care settings.
The Board of Athletic Trainers consists of five members appointed by the governor:
- Three members must be athletic trainers who have practiced continuously in this state for the three years prior to the date of appointment.
- One member must be a licensed physician.
- One member must be a member of the general public who is not an athletic trainer.
Terms in office are four years, with an appointee eligible to serve a maximum of two consecutive terms or until a successor is appointed.
