Cross Connection Specialist & Backflow Assembly Tester Certification

Certification Prerequisite: All applicants are required to submit a copy of their High School Diploma, GED certificate, or College Diploma with their application. If you are unable to locate your diploma, you may send a copy of your transcripts.

Cross Connection Specialist

Before you take the 4-day Specialist course, make sure you have the experience and education prerequisites listed below.

Experience

  • One year of experience working in the water industry. 
  • This is typically​ a letter from a supervisor, or Distribution/Treatment certification.

Education

  • A high school diploma, GED, or college diploma.
  • You will need to submit a copy with your application. Transcripts with graduation dates are acceptable.

Fees

The two year certification cycle is split up based on the first letter of your last name. 

Fees are prorated by 50% when applications are submitted 1/2 way through the certification cycle. Use the chart below to determine the fee for your certification

*Note: If you are paying the prorated fee and we are close to the end of the year when your certification would expire, you may want to submit your paperwork in January of the begining of the next cycle. This will save you a some money.

Specialist Renewal

​Renewal notices are mailed out in October of every year. 

If the first letter of your last name begins with A-K, you will renew in EVEN numbered years.

If the first letter of your last name begins with L-Z, you will renew in an ODD numbered year. 

First Specialist Renewal

If this is your first Specialist renewal you are not requied to take a recert course becasue you just completed the 4 day course. 

Required Tester Attachments 

  • Gauge Calibrations
    • Submit the TWO gauge calibrations that are asked for on the renewal notice. 
    • FIRST RENEWAL? You may not have any calibrations yet, just check the appropriate box on the renewal, but keep in mind even new gauges come with a calibration sheet.
  • Training Certificate
    • Attach the certificate/letter you recieved after attending the  1 or 2 day tester recertification course.  
    • FIRST RENEWAL? Then you are not required to take the recert course. 
​Required Specialist Attachments
  • 0.6 CEUs from a Specialist Update course, or from a water related training.
    • ​No, you cannot use your tester recert course certificate. 


Your renewal notice will be mailed to you in the first two weeks of October.

​The renewal fee is for a Tester OR Speciialist is $195.00 
The renewal fee for a Tester AND Specialist is $305.00

Renewal packets and payments are due by December 31

Late Fee
If you are submitting your renewal late, after January 31st, then you will need to pay the renewal fee plus the $50.00 reinstatement fee.

The late renewal fee for a Tester OR Specialist is $245.00
The late renewal fee for a TESTER AND Specialist is $355.00
