Residency Requirements
- U.S. citizen with a Doctor in Pharmacy degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) school or college of pharmacy
- License or eligible for pharmacist licensure in Oregon – Must acquire and maintain a valid license to practice pharmacy in Oregon
- Possess a clinical pharmacy foundation
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Strong work ethic

Oregon State Hospital participates with the National Match Service program. Upon receiving applications, on-site interviews take place from mid-January through February.
Residency Goals
- Develop pharmacy skills and competencies in various medical and psychiatric pharmacy practice areas, empowering residents to provide drug-therapy consultations and therapeutic drug monitoring
- Develop teaching skills to the level of earning a teaching certificate
- Enhance written and oral communication skills
- Develop effective organizational, integrative and evaluative skills, which will help residents develop cost-effective and patient-orientated pharmacy services
- Provide data and research experiences in a psychiatric pharmacy setting through initiation and completion of a clinical research project.

Residence Tasks
- Perform medication reconciliation, medication histories, medication and lab recommendations and anticoagulation and diabetes management
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings
- Provide educational presentations to multiple audiences, including pharmacy staff, physicians, nurses, drug and alcohol counselors and patients
- Take part in P&T Committee, infection prevention, antibiotic stewardship, anticoagulation management, polypharmacy, policies, protocols, newsletters, adverse drug reaction follow up, medication monographs and medication reviews
- Coordinate Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) student activities, including but not limited to journal club, disease state monographs, new drug monographs, drug information questions, clinical interventions, case presentations and topic discussion presentations with pharmacy staff
- Complete one research project for presentation at a regional or national meeting
Teaching Certificate Opportunity
Through a collaboration between Oregon State University College of Pharmacy and Pacific University College of Pharmacy, OSH pharmacy residents can earn the Oregon Pharmacy Teaching Certificate (OPTC). The didactic, statewide teaching certificate program enables residents to receive teaching experience onsite or at a local college or university.
