It’s charged with periodically reviewing state and federal laws concerning OSH policies and procedures related to patient care, safety and security. The board may make recommendations directly with the OSH superintendent, Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon State Legislature.

In recent years, the board has served as the rules advisory committee supporting increased patient privacy. It’s also influenced policies concerning reproductive health and treatment for patients who are unable to aid and assist in their own defense due to a mental illness.
