Professional/Technical Staffing

Professional Staff means “professional workers as defined in a collective bargaining agreement or, if no collective bargaining agreement exists, by the chief executive officer of the hospital or the chief executive officer’s designee, consistent with National Labor Relations Board regulations.” ORS 441.760(11).

Technical Staff means “technical workers as defined in a collective bargaining agreement or, if no collective bargaining agreement exists, by the chief executive officer of the hospital or the chief executive officer’s designee, consistent with National Labor Relations Board regulations.” ORS 441.760(15).

Examples of professional/technical staff members may be lab techs, surgical techs, and respiratory therapists. The types of staff included in this definition may vary by hospital because “professional staff” is defined by either collective bargaining agreement or the hospital chief executive officer. An individual in a specific job category may be included in a professional/technical staffing plan at one hospital and the same job category may not be included in professional/technical staff definitions, plans, and protections at another hospital.
