What are psilocybin services in Oregon?
In Oregon, “psilocybin services" refers to preparation, administration, and integration sessions provided by a licensed facilitator.

A preparation session includes client intake and review of informed consent, client bill of rights, accessibility needs, safety and support planning, and transportation planning. During preparation sessions, clients complete a set of required forms, including a standardized client information form. The answers on the client information form may indicate that a client is ineligible to receive services or requires an authorized client support person to be present during their administration session. A client may be found ineligible to receive services if they are experiencing ideation of harm to self or others, have taken Lithium within 30 days, or have been diagnosed with active psychosis at any time. Every client who will participate in an administration session is required to complete a Safety and Support Plan with their licensed facilitator. Every client must complete an individualized transportation plan prior to consuming psilocybin products and must follow that plan after finishing their administration session at the service center. During a preparation session, a client determines whether they want to proceed with an administration session and the facilitator determines whether they can provide services to the client.

After completing the preparation session and found eligible for services, a client may participate in an administration session at a licensed service center. The administration session is the only time a client may purchase and consume psilocybin products. Clients are required to stay at the service center for a minimal duration of time based on the dosage of psilocybin they consume, and group administration sessions require client-facilitator ratios.

Licensed facilitators will follow-up with clients within 72 hours of administration sessions and will offer integration sessions to clients. Integration sessions allow clients the opportunity to review their safety and support plans, talk about their session, and receive referrals to community resources, peer support networks, and other information.

How do I know if I am eligible for psilocybin services?
Clients do not need to live in Oregon to access psilocybin services. To access psilocybin services, an individual must be 21 years of age or older. A prescription or medical referral is not required.

Before participating in an administration session at a licensed service center, an individual must participate in a preparation session with a licensed facilitator.

How do I schedule a session?
People who want to access psilocybin services should contact a licensed service center directly to schedule services. To find a licensed service center, visit the OPS Licensee Directory. This directory contains information provided by OPS licensees who have consented to have their information published. To start, filter the list under the license type “Service Center". From there, an inidividual should research service centers to find a licensed premises that will meet their needs. Each licensed service center, and the licensed facilitators who work with them, manage their own operations and communications with clients. It may take some time to connect with a service center and schedule a preparation session.

How much does it cost?
Oregon Psilocybin Services does not have the authority to set or regulate the costs of psilocybin products or services Each licensed service center, and the licensed facilitators who work for or with them, will set their own prices.

How do I know if psilocybin services are a safe option for me?
During a preparation session an individual will work with a licensed facilitator to review client information, informed consent, and client bill of rights forms, discuss accessibility needs, and create a safety and support plan and transportation plan.

The answers on the Client Information Form may indicate that a client is ineligible to receive services or requires an authorized client support person to be present during their administration session. A client determines whether they want to proceed with an administration session and the facilitator determines whether they are able to provide services to the client. Licensed facilitators may decline services to clients for any reason. For more information about scientific studies related to psilocybin, please visit the Scientific Literature Review.

How do I choose and purchase psilocybin products?
Umder Oregon law, an individual can only purchase psilocybin products at a licensed service center during an administration session. Products may not be purchased and taken off-site.

The service center will share which product types they have available. The Psilocybin Product Potency Information Document is designed to support client decisions on selecting a product type and dose that aligns with their intentions. The document explains different terms used in psilocybin product testing and where they can be found on product labels and other documents required to be shared with clients. OPS encourages facilitators to share and discuss this information with clients during preparation sessions.

How do I access culturally or linguistically responsive services?
Licensed facilitators with diverse lived and professional experiences may support the health of communities through culturally and linguistically responsive services. Service centers and facilitators must be able to provide information regarding any culturally or linguistically responsive services they offer to clients to support client safety, access to services, and harm reduction. This may include translation and interpretation resources or referring clients to other facilitators or service centers if the licensee is not able to provide culturally and linguistically responsive services requested by a client. The purpose of this requirement is to support clients and prospective clients in making informed decisions about choosing a service center and facilitator that meets their individual needs.

Licensed service centers and facilitators are also required to have social equity plans. The purpose of this requirement is to ensure that every psilocybin licensee in Oregon considers how certain communities have been disproportionately harmed by systemic inequities and how they propose to address these inequities in their business practices. A Social Equity Plan is an opportunity for licensees to state specific commitments to social equity and how those commitments will be integrated into their business operations. Service centers and facilitators must make their Social Equity Plans and evaluation reports available to clients and perspective clients upon request.
