National Data

  • Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC™) Survey (CDC)
A national survey of maternity care practices and policies, administered to all hospitals and birth centers by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Data indicates that hospitals have opportunities to implement practices in labor, delivery, postpartum care, and hospital discharge planning that support parents who want to breastfeed.
  • Breastfeeding Report Card (CDC)
National and state data released every 2 years.
  • National Immunization Survey
Initiation, 6- and 12-month breastfeeding rates in the U.S. population.

*Studies on breastfeeding have included subjects presumed to be cisgender. When describing health effects seen in mother-infant dyads from research, replacing words to be gender-inclusive is incorrect if the original author or organization did not use such language.
