What is Radon?
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas. Radon is found everywhere in the world. The natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water produces radon. Exposure to high radon levels over a long period of time can increase your risk of lung cancer. Testing your home for radon is easy, and the first step to reducing potentially high radon exposure.
Free Short-Term Radon Test Kit Program
Oregon Radon Awareness Program provides a FREE short-term radon test kit to those living in areas of Oregon where little radon testing has been done. The purpose of the program is to identify potential radon risk in Oregon's ZIP codes. This information helps the Oregon Radon Awareness Program and partner organizations to understand radon risk levels in Oregon.

2025 Northwest Radon Poster Contest
January is Radon Action Month. This poster contest serves to raise awareness of harmful effects of elevated indoor radon levels and promote testing and mitigation of radon gas. Regional first, second, and third place winners will win cash prizes. Student Alexia Vallo's poster placed 1st in Oregon and 2nd nationally in 2024 (below).
