Value-Based Payment Care Delivery Areas

Overview: What is a care delivery area?

As reflected in the VBP Roadmap for Coordinated Care Organizations, CCOs will develop innovative VBP models — which can be pilots — in focus areas called care delivery areas (CDAs). These areas represent settings and/or providers relatively new to VBP. The longer-term goal of these areas is to identify successful models that can be shared and spread across the state.

CCOs must implement VBP models in the following CDAs between 2022 and 2024 (implementation delayed, and reflected in the schedule below, due to the COVID-19 public health emergency):

CDAs have flexibility in VBP models implemented, including design and size, but models must be a Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network (HCP LAN) Category 2C (Pay-for-Performance) or higher. See the VBP Technical Guide for CCOs for more information.
