The NHSC Program
Oregon participates in the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) program to address the needs of underserved populations. Through this program, certain health care providers are offered scholarships or loan repayments for providing services in federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA).
NHSC is part of the US Department of Health and Human Services and administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Clinician Recruitment and Service.
Students and Providers
NHSC offers
loan repayment incentives and
scholarships to students and providers in qualifying primary health care professions who practice in clinics that provide services to underserved populations.
Approved Sites
Clinics that qualify to become
NHSC approved sites are located in health professional shortage areas (HPSAs) and are approved by the NHSC. They are medical, dental, and mental and behavioral health sites that serve all people regardless of their ability to pay.
