About the Bridge:
The Gold Hill Bridge is located along OR99 (the Pacific Highway) east of downtown Gold Hill at mile point (MP) 2.65 in Jackson County in southern Oregon. The Gold Hill Bridge was previously determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and was included in the 1985 Historic Highway Bridges of Oregon Thematic Group document. Opened in 1927, the reinforced concrete open-spandrel barrel-type deck arch was the result of an effort to improve the drivability of the Pacific Highway after the highway’s formal completion and dedication in 1923. Configured of one 143-foot (ft) deck arch flanked on either side by three 50-ft concrete girder approach spans, all with arched haunches, the Gold Hill Bridge, as described in the 2013 Oregon’s Historic Bridge Field Guide, “is the only example of a barrel-type open-spandrel arch in the state.”
