Medical Examination Requirements
Commercial motor vehicle operators must have a U.S. Department of Transportation medical exam done per CFR 49 §391.41 and CFR 49 §391.43.
Who May Perform Medical Exams
The examiner must be listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners to do the commercial driver license, commercial learner permit or commercial motor vehicle medical examinations.
The requirements to be listed in the National Registry are described in 49 CFR, Part 390, Subpart D.
Completing the Medical Examiner's Certificate
It is vital that the Medical Examiner's Certificate is properly completed and readable. If it’s not, we can’t process it, and the driver may lose their commercial driving privileges.
