This course is part of the Oregon Department of transportation's strategy to improve statewide consistency in carrying out Oregon's highway construction program.
What does this course cover?
The goal of this course is to provide inspectors with practical knowledge and standard industry practices for conducting inspections. The inspector's responsibility to verify compliance with project requirements as well as ODOT and/or federal mandates will be explained.
The General Construction Inspector Certification course reviews major contract documents used on ODOT construction projects including Standard Specifications, Special Provisions, and Plans. It also covers other contract documents including the Non-Field-Tested Materials Acceptance Guide (NTMAG), Qualified Products List (QPL), and Manual of Field Test Procedures (MFTP). The prime objective is to learn how to navigate all the contract documents, know their order of precedence and your role as an Agency representative inspector. In addition, this course reviews quality and quantity documentation, inspector survey, labor compliance, workforce and small business equity program, general requirements of contract administration, construction materials, and project documentation.
The Review/Overview classes cover the same content as above but at a faster pace for those seeking a refresher or quick overview of the same content.
Who should take this course?
This course is designed for individuals who are responsible for or involved in inspecting during construction. The primary audience is ODOT personnel, consultants, and local agencies. Project management and construction engineers overseeing inspectors are also encouraged to attend.
How long is the certification valid?
This certification is valid for five years.
