Forest Management Plan revision
The updated draft revised Western Oregon State Forest Management Plan is available. View the plan.
State-owned forests are sustainably managed to provide environmental, social and economic benefits to all Oregonians. By law, the majority of revenue generated from state forests must be distributed to counties and schools and used to provide public services. State Forest Management Plans establish the goals and direction to manage state forests.
The plan revision, which kicked off in 2018, is intended to increase financial and conservation outcomes on the approximately 613,000 acres of Board of Forestry land covered under the plan. This includes the Tillamook, Clatsop, and Santiam state forests along with scattered parcels throughout western Oregon as shown on the map above.
Public comment on the plan was accepted through Jan. 31, 2020.
By law, state forests are managed for Greatest Permanent Value, providing economic, environmental and social benefits over time and across the landscape. The revised plan still seeks to achieve this balance and is not expected to significantly increase harvest levels. It seeks to improve upon these outcomes by addressing issues that are unaddressed or underemphasized in the current plan.
Current status
ODF recently held two public input sessions in Salem and one in Astoria regarding the draft plan, and accepted comments on the plan through Jan. 31, 2020. The plan will be presented to the Board of Forestry as an information-only item in April 2020.
Public participation: As ODF embarks on this mission, a key goal is to provide information and engage in dialogue with all Oregonians who want to weigh in on this important plan revision.
