This is Oregon's principal wheat production area. Irrigation along the Columbia River has transformed what was once sagebrush and desert into some of the nation's most productive farmland where you can find potatoes, onions, a variety of vegetables for processing, watermelon, tree fruit, and alfalfa.
Oregon schools, child care centers, and summer food programs (otherwise known as school food sponsors) serve a variety of foods in their meal programs, including dairy products, whole grains, meat, seafood and fruits and vegetables. Many of these products are available in Oregon and reimbursable under the Oregon Farm to School Program.
