Characterized by wet winters, relatively dry summers and maritime temperatures throughout the year, this region has a dramatic landscape. The wet and mild climate, along with the proximity to the Pacific Ocean, make it an ideal environment for cranberries. It also boasts a long growing season, providing vegetable crops, and seafood such as groundfish.
Oregon schools, child care centers, and summer food programs (otherwise known as school food sponsors) serve a variety of foods in their meal programs, including dairy products, whole grains, meat, seafood and fruits and vegetables. Many of these products are available in Oregon and reimbursable under the Oregon Farm to School Program.
If you are new to selling to schools or interested in finding out if you have eligible products covered under the program, please visit the Oregon Department of Agriculture’s Farm to School Program to get started.
We are here to help! Oregon has many Regional Farm to School Hubs to assist producers and school food sponsors at the local level. For questions about selling local products and supply chain issues please contact your Procurement Regional Hub Coordinator. For questions about farm field trips, in classroom agricultural education or school gardens please contact your Education Regional Hub Coordinator.
Connect with Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom or Oregon AgLink to make a difference in your school community by helping students learn about careers in agriculture or hosting farm field trips. Oregon State University also offers in-person and virtual Farm to School activities in various locations throughout the state. Find your local OSU Farm to School Program for more information.
Do you have product(s) that could be served in Child Nutrition Program meals? Consider listing your business and products in our Oregon Harvest for Schools Directory. It’s free and school food sponsors find it easy to use to find local products to purchase. Fill out this directory Inquiry Form and we’ll get you connected.
