The Plant Health and Insect Pest Prevention and Management programs provide general plant pest and disease diagnostic services for Cannabis, including marijuana and hemp.
What tests do we provide?
We can screen for the following plant pathogens: bacteria, fungi, nematodes, phytoplasmas, and viruses. For more details about insect identification services, please contact the

How do I submit a sample?
- Samples are accepted by appointment only - please email
PlantHealth@oda.oregon.gov to set up a time to drop off samples in person.
- Marijuana or hemp samples can be submitted, in person, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5p.m. If plants are tracked in Metrc AND you are submitting a whole plant, you must do a transfer manifest to the ODA Regulatory Lab prior to submitting your sample.

- For all samples, payment is due at the time of submission.

How much does a diagnosis cost and what does it include?
We charge $70 per sample for disease diagnosis. This includes a consultation with Plant Health Program staff and an overall evaluation, including a microscopic exam and culturing and visual identification of potential pathogens. Additional tests may be included at the submitter’s request to confirm diagnoses, and will be billed accordingly.
