Below is a list of the Fire Program's standards for certification and accompanying applicant requirements. Most levels of certification require successful completion of training components as well as Task Books or Task Performance Evaluations which are provided. Additionally, for most levels of certification you will find an accompanying Guide to Certification containing additional certification requirement information. Maritime Fire Service Operator
To apply for a Maritime Fire Service Operator level of certification, applicants must complete the training requirements, related Task Books, and the Application for Certification found below. NFPA Airport Fire Fighter
NFPA Fire & Emergency Services Instructor
To apply for the 2019 Edition of NFPA 1041 Fire & Emergency Services Instructor levels of certification, applicants must complete the training requirements, related Task Book, and the Application for Certification found below. NFPA Fire & Life Safety Educator, Public Information Officer, and Youth Firesetter Intervention Specilist & Program Manager
To apply for the 2017 Edition of NFPA 1035 Fire & Life Safety Educator, Public Information Officer, Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist, and/or Youth Firesetter Program Manager levels of certification, applicants must complete the training requirements, related Task Book, and the Application for Certification found below. NFPA Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator
To apply for the 2017 Edition of NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator levels of certification, applicants must complete the training requirements, related Task Book or Task Performance Evaluations, and the Application for Certification found below. NFPA Fire Fighter
To apply for the 2019 Edition of NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter levels of certification, applicants must complete the training requirements, related Task Book or Task Performance Evaluations, and the Application for Certification found below. To qualify for NFPA Fire Fighter I and II, either Task Books or Task Performance Evaluations must be completed. The following are links to Task Books and below is Task Performance Evaluation information.
Task Performance Evaluations should be discussed with your District Liaison Officer (DLO). Please utilize the TPE-10 Notice of Proposed Task Performance Evaluation Form before completing the applicant's evaluations. During the evaluation, evaluators use the TP-4 Form.
NFPA Fire Inspector
To apply for the 2014 Edition of NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector levels of certification, applicants must complete the training requirements, related Task Book, and the Application for Certification found below. NFPA Fire Investigator
To apply for the 2014 Edition of NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator levels of certification, applicants must complete the training requirements, related Task Book, the state written examination (in some cases. NFPA Fire Officer
To apply for the 2020 Edition of NFPA 1021 Fire Officer levels of certification, applicants must complete the training requirements, related Task Book or Task Performance Evaluations, and the Application for Certification found below. NFPA Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction
To apply for the 2018 Edition of NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction levels of certification, applicants must complete the training requirements, related Task Book or Task Performance Evaluations, and the Application for Certification found below. NFPA Technical Rescue
To apply for the 2021 Edition of NFPA 1006 Technical Rescuer levels of certification, applicants must complete the training requirements, related Task Book, and the Application for Certification found below. Urban Search and Rescue
To apply for the 2017 Edition of Urban Search and Rescue applicants must complete the training requirements and the Application for Certification found below.
Wildland Fire Operations Positions
To apply for the National Wildland Coordinating Group (NWCG) Operations Positions levels of certification based on PMS 310-1, applicants must complete the training requirements, related NWCG Task Book, and the Application for Certification found below. To qualify for any level of Wildland certifications except Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2), an NWCG Position Task Book must be completed by the applicant. Visit NWCG's Position Task Book Catalog to access a list of their official Task Books.
