DPSST's Fire Program is made up of the Fire Certification and Training Sections. The Fire Certification Section is responsible for maintaining state fire certification standards set by the Fire Policy Committee and Board on Public Safety Standards and Training, in alignment with National Fire Protection Association and National Wildland Coordinating Group standards. This section of DPSST provides formal recognition to members of the Oregon fire service who voluntarily demonstrate required levels of competency. The Fire Training Section provides entry-level, specialized, leadership and maintenance training to Oregon's fire service professionals on a regional basis and at the Oregon Public Safety Academy. Training is delivered based on identification of specific training needs by individual fire fighting agencies and regions of the state.
