DCBS is Oregon’s largest consumer protection and business regulatory agency. We are a resource to consumers and businesses in areas involving building safety, finance, and workplace health and safety.
In 1990, a group of workers and employers came together to fix a crumbling workers’ compensation system. The changes that came from the reforms have helped Oregon become one of the nation’s most successful workers’ compensation systems.
DCBS strives for a balanced approach that protects Oregon consumers and workers while considering the effect our regulations have on the economy, businesses, and individuals we regulate.
From 1887, when the Secretary of State received ex officio powers as insurance commissioner, to the present day – the agency has had a rich history of consumer protection and business regulation.
This process will shape our department and further define who we are, what we do, and why we do it. Strategic planning will help us determine our objectives and initiatives, and provide a vision of how we will achieve them.
