Becoming a certified foster parent can take as little as 8 weeks or as long as 6 months or more.
The length of time depends on the applicant’s availability as well as the complexity of each family or personal situation.
Here’s the general process:
- Contact the certifier in your area.
- Meet with the certifier to learn if you’re a good candidate and to determine next steps.
- Apply.
- Complete a full background check.
- Complete a full home study.
- Work with the certifier to complete the pre-service training (about 30 hours).
