WRD and USGS meet quarterly with a 15 member Groundwater Study Advisory Committee that includes local landowners, ranchers, farmers, a local well driller, a local irrigation/pump installer, a representative from the Burns-Paiute Tribe, US Fish and Wildlife Service, the County Court, the Harney County Watershed Council, other local organizations, The Nature Conservancy, and WRD. Members of the Committee were jointly appointed by WRD and the Harney County Court.
The Groundwater Study Advisory Committee was first convened in July 2016 to foster an open exchange of information, data, and ideas between Harney County residents, other interested parties, and the WRD and USGS Groundwater Study Team with the intent of strengthening the groundwater study.
