About Oregon's Mobile Food Unit Fire Code

In cooperation with the Oregon Mobile Food Association and other industry partners, the OSFM updated the 2022 Oregon Fire Code to include enhanced safety requirements for mobile food units.

Throughout the past couple of years, Oregon State Fire Marshal staff hosted many meetings and trainings around Oregon about the new safety requirements. OSFM staff worked with owners and operators to make a plan on how to meet the new code by January 1, 2025.

Some of the new requirements include the spacing of food carts, placement and operation of portable generators, use of hoods for solid fuel cooking, storage and venting of cook oil, storage of fuel, and use of fire extinguishers and carbon monoxide alarms.

We’re thankful for the support and collaboration of our partners at the Oregon Mobile Food Association. These enhanced safety measure wouldn’t be possible without the countless hours, input, and support of the mobile food unit industry.
