Continuing Education
Board rules for continuing education are available here. These rules are effective as of 01/01/2021. This means that a registrant, unless otherwise exempt under the rules, who applies for a registration renewal AFTER 01/01/2022 must have completed the required continuing education activity hours for the 2021-2022 renewal year. A registrant must then complete the required continuing education activity hours for each subsequent renewal year. Please review the rules for details, or send questions to the Board at osbge.info@bgelab.oregon.gov.
Oregon Registered Geologists (RGs) and Certified Engineering Geologists (CEGs) are subject to continuing education requirements as established by the Board, unless specifically exempted. The annual requirement is completion of 8 hr. of qualifying continuing education activities per renewal year. If a registrant completes more than 8 hr. in a renewal year, up to 8 hr. of those additional hr. may be carried over to the subsequent renewal year but not beyond then.
RGs and CEGs may choose from a wide range of activities, as detailed in Board rules and in the Board's Continuing Education Guidance document and Potential Activities List available on this page. The Board does not pre-approve activities, as this would then limit the options potentially available to registrants.
The Board encourages RGs and CEGs to use an activities log form to help keep track of continuing education activities completed. Example log forms are available for download from this page in Excel and Word formats.
