General Alan R. Gronewold additional information
Upon graduating from flight training at Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1997,
General Gronewold served in the 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of
Korea, as the Aviation Brigade Headquarters Company Executive Officer
and later in the 2nd U.S. Cavalry Regiment in Fort Polk, Louisiana as an
Assault Helicopter Platoon Leader and Squadron Logistics Officer. 12th
Aviation Brigade in Germany for the next four years, serving in
Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in 2003 as an Aviation Intermediate Maintenance
(AVIM) Production Control Officer and later as an Aviation Maintenance
Company Commander in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in 2005. In 2006, he
joined the Oregon Army National Guard, was assigned as Commander, Army
Aviation Support Facility in Pendleton and became CH-47 qualified. He
served for three years as the 2-641 Aviation Battalion Executive
Officer, serving again in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in 2008-2009. General
Gronewold served as Commander, 2nd Battalion, 641st Aviation Regiment
from August 2014 through November 2016. He graduated from the U.S. Army
War College in June 2018. From July 2018 until November 2019, he served
as the Director of Aviation and Safety, as Commander 41 IBCT from
November 2019 until October 2020 when he assumed command of the 40th
Combat Aviation Brigade. He deployed the Brigade to the CENTCOM Area of
Responsibility in support of Operations INHERENT RESOLVE and SPARTAN
SHIELD in February 2021. After completing its mobilization to the Middle
East in January 2022, 40th Combat Aviation Brigade won the AAAA
Outstanding Unit of the Year award. In 2022, General Gronewold
served as the Land Component Commander, Oregon Joint Force Headquarters,
Salem OR, dual-hatted as ORARNG Chief of Staff. General Gronewold is
the 32nd Adjutant General of Oregon.
