Get information about cyanobacteria blooms, exposure pathways, health effects, and the science behind the blooms.
Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) has been harvested from Upper Klamath Lake in Oregon for many years. This cyanobacteria is marketed in pill and powder form found in blue-green algae dietary supplements and other foods and drinks. These products can get contaminated by cyanotoxins and potentially make people or their pets sick. For information about these products, please visit the US Food and Drug Administration’s Blue-Green Algae Products and Microcystins webpage.
