Syringe Services Program

In October 2017, Oregon was approved by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to use funds from certain eligible Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) grants to support Syringe Services Programs. This Determination of Need was based on Oregon's increased risk for viral hepatitis and HIV infections related to non-sterile injection drug use. This allows public health programs to intensify HIV prevention among communities at risk, expand syringe access and disposal options, and focus on HIV testing and linkage to care.

Find a Syringe Service Program

There are multiple online resources for finding syringe exchange and other harm reduction services near you, including NASEN and 211. Rose City Resource provides information for Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington Counties only. OHA does not create or maintain these lists. You can also reach out to your local public health authority for more information about syringe exchange and overdose prevention services in your area.

About Syringe Service Programs

Syringe services programs (SSP) are community based programs for people who inject drugs. SSPs provide a variety of services including free sterile needles and syringes, safe disposal areas, and access to prevention services such as HIV and Hepatitis C testing. These programs are important integrations in our efforts to prevent HIV transmission.
